I think that this marking period went great. I really liked this blogger thing we did, because it made you think more about what you were going to say.  I also think it helped every ones writing skills, because some of the first blogs I read were pretty bad, including mine, but they got way better as the marking period went on. I think it is a good idea and I think we should do it for all the marking periods. I liked how we did two themes also, I think that also helps with my writing skills and my over all knowledge.  The independent reading project was also a good project, but it is tough reading two books and being required to know, and read all the information from both books. As for the independent reading project, I like it because I am finding it easy to put all the information into a facebook page. I read Harry the K, a book about Harry Kalas.  I liked the book to kill a mocking bird but I don’t think we should of read it in the first marking period. I think it would have been better to read it in the second or third marking period, when everyone is paying more attention in school. It was such a good book, that I think it would have benefited every one more if we read it later. (just a suggestion), because I know a lot of people didn’t read the book.

Akon-Don't Matter - The society didn't want to see the black folks and the white folks living together. But, some wanted to be equal. Its prejudice and it seperates the two and some tried to stay equal. Atticus and Calpurnia, or Scout and Jem sitting with the Afican Americans during the trial are two of my examples. The book was written to show the segragation and hatred toward the blacks, and this song i think, is perfect for this sene in the book.

Blog 4 Emmet Till

The Emmet Till court case was about a young 13-year-old African American teenager, who had left his home in Chicago to go to visit his cousin in Money Mississippi. The young boy was with his cousin and some other friends out front of a store, when one of the boys dared him to go into the store they were standing in front of and talk to the white girl that was in there. Emmett Till went into the store and found the girl, and as she was leaving Emmitt said “Bye baby” to the white girl. Later that night while he was in bed at his cousin’s house, two white men came to the door and knocked. They had a flashlight in one hand and a pistol in the other. They took young emit till from the house and put him in their truck and took him to a river. They brutally beat him, shot him in the head, tied him to a cotton jinn, and submerged him, dead into the river.  The boy was found and the two men were brought back to Chicago and tried. An ALL WHITE JUREY found them NOT guilty. The men 5 years later were paid money by a reporter to tell the truth about what happened, and essentially admitted to what they had done. Atticus plays a big roll  in to kill a mocking bird by being an African Americans lawyer. He was being tried for raping a white girl, an act of crime that he had not committed.  This was looked down upon, because the man (Tom Robinson) was black, and a white man (Atticus) was being his lawyer in the case Atticus came through in this case and won the black man his freedom back. This should have been the case with emit till but it wasn’t.  the white jury found the white men not guilty.  The emit till case showed social injustice back then, and it is such a good thing that it is not around any more, and if it is its very minimal.

Brown vs the Board of Education

Brown vs. The Board of Education

            The book “To Kill a Mocking Bird” was written after the brown vs. the board of education of Topeka, but the setting took place before it.   It showed that every race and color needed to be given the opportunity to get a proper education. Brown vs. the Board of Education of Topeka also stopped the segregation in schools. Brown vs. Board was a civil rights case about how African American students should have the same equal opportunity to get an education as white students. This was the biggest turning point in the development of our country. Before this black people couldn’t ride the same bus as whites, and the ones that they could they had to sit in the back. They also could not drink from the same water fountains as white people, or eat at the same restaurants as white people. The Brown vs. Board showed how people thought black folks were illiterate and couldn’t be thought how to do things like read and write. Brown vs. Board helped change that and they also proved that they could learn better than white people. In the book they degrade black people because the white people think that they are not smart. This is shown when they are talking about Atticus and his case of the girl being raped by Mr. Tom Robinson. The author in “To Kill a Mocking Bird” was trying to show that the segregation was wrong, and she did get her point across.

Who is Harper Lee?

Nelle Harper Lee is her full name. She was born April 28Th 1996 in Monroeville, Alabama. She won the Pulitzer Prize for her book, To Kill a Mockingbird, it was her first, only and last book she ever published.. Harper Lee does not like to talk to reporters, and she has not written any more books.Lee studied law at the University of Alabama from 1945 to 1949, and spent a year as an exchange student in Oxford University, Wellington Square. Six months before finishing her studies, she went to New York to pursue a literary career. Her father was a former newspaper editor. :)
